The long arm moves the wrist for accurate placement while the short arm allows measurement of DIP range of motion. With +/-2° accuracy, the readings can range from 30° hyperextension to 120° flexion. The tight-fitting hinge allows therapists to read the goniometer after the user removed it. The loose-fitting hinge lies on the joint without guidance.
